On the 24th of August 2016 I took a 6am Ryanair fl

On the 24th of August 2016 I took a 6am Ryanair flight from Berlin to Madrid. I was 20 years old and this was the start of my Erasmus semester In León, the North of Spain. Who would have thought I would still be here 8 years later? 😅
My start in Spain was definitely not an easy one. I spoke (almost) zero Spanish and I ended up in a town where English wasn’t much of a help either 😄 I got fired from my internship, got my things stolen (several times) and had a very critical bank account at least a couple of times. My start in Madrid was so rough I was actually debating whether it made sense for me to be there. But still I decided to extend my stay, again and again and again. This country felt like home to me immediately, and for some reason I could never imagine myself leaving it. Where else should I even go? De Madrid al cielo, as they say. This journey has taught me so much, I met incredible people during my time here and I am so grateful for it. I wish someone would have told 20-year-old-me that growth only happens outside of your comfort zone. And to maybe take the Spanish classes in my university more seriously.
Spain really slapped me in the face when I most needed it and made me the person I am today.
To many more years ❤️ Happy 8 year anniversary to myself 🥳 Hasta luego, Gabi 👩🏻‍🦰
